he Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a preliminary enquiry report about irregularities related to the department of telecommunication (DoT) between 2001 and 2007, a period during which DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran was in charge of the ministry for three years.
CBI sources said that the agency might interrogate Maran at some stage. It was also likely to name Maran and Malaysian telecom firm Maxis in an FIR relating to a probe surrounding the ownership change in cellular company Aircel. A charge-sheet would be filed after that.
The CBI has been looking into financial transactions of Sun TV, owned by the Maran family, and Maxis. It was also looking into various aspects of takeover of Aircel by Maxis.
The CBI had earlier questioned Arun Shourie, who held the telecom ministry during 2003-04 in the NDA regime, in detail about the allocation of telecom airwaves during his tenure. However the agency so far has not found anything against him.
